The "free" DOUBLE chocolate oatmeal cookies

March 27, 2015 by Anne Fillion in dairy-free, egg-free, glutenfree, nut-free, soy-free, vegana

These gooey double chocolate oatmeal cookies have everything of a traditional oatmeal cookie, but they could totally be called the "free cookies".  They are gluten-free, vegan (which means dairy-free and egg-free), nut-free (if you choose the sun butter or tahini butter), almost refined sugar free (except for the sugar in the chips...) but they are certainly not tasteless! If you do the version with the dates instead of the coconut sugar (see the note in the recipe below), you could even eat them for breakfast!

Mint chocolat chip ice cream sandwich (vegan, gluten-free)

March 26, 2015 by Anne Fillion in glutenfree, vegana, egg-free, soy-free, dairy-free

My husband and I have been together for more than ten years (!).  That means he knows how to make me happy.  This past Valentine's day, he gave me a brand new ice cream machine (I was still searching for the perfect machine, remember?)! No chocolate, diamond or flowers (he still brought me the most beautiful flowers!) could've made me happier than this new kitchen gadget! And he knows it! It also means that I have the best husband... but most probably that he had huge ice cream cravings ;)

Strawberry, vanilla & pistachio raw buckwheat porridge

March 19, 2015 by Anne Fillion in dairy-free, egg-free, glutenfree, nut-free, raw, soy-free, vegana

Recently, we have been making a lot of different porridges or smoothie bowls in the morning.  I like to experiment with different flavors, toppings and presentations. My kids both really love porridges, particularly cold and raw ones.  Every time I put a tiny bowl of porridge and a spoon in front of Mila, we don't hear a single noise from her until she's done.

With the first organic strawberries of the year now available at the Farmer's market, I was looking for a new breakfast idea more appropriate for the summer weather.

Vegan lemon bars (Gluten-free, egg-free, dairy-free).

March 13, 2015 by Anne Fillion in glutenfree, vegana, egg-free, soy-free, dairy-free

When I was a child, my grandmother used to do a mile-high meringue lemon pie.  Every time, she'd let my tiny hands whipped the egg whites until the peaks were just perfect. Recently, a friend brought me a bag full of freshly picked Meyer lemons.  To satisfy my childhood food cravings, I knew I had to do a vegan version of my gandma's lemon pie.  I chose to do bars instead of a pie so my kids could easily hold them in their small hands and eat them as a snack (though you could still do it as a pie!).

Turmeric mango lassi

March 04, 2015 by Anne Fillion in glutenfree, vegana, nut-free, raw, egg-free, soy-free, dairy-free

Turmeric is gaining in popularity this year.  I was already using it a lot (I have a 1 kg bag of organic turmeric in my pantry!), but I only recently started using turmeric in other recipes that only Indian curries. For example, my favorite hot drink when I feel sick is a Roiboos tea with fresh ginger, raw honey, cayenne, lemon and ..... turmeric !  Maybe you caught my recent post, Zen turmeric pancakes w/blood orange syrup ? These are so delicious they've become one of our top morning treats ! You probably also heard about the golden milk, which is a sweet turmeric plant-based milk with a touch of black pepper.

Quinoa, peas, mint, feta & lemon salad

February 25, 2015 by Anne Fillion in dairy-free, glutenfree, egg-free, nut-free, soy-free, vegana

This week I wanted to bring the Californian sun to all my reader's, especially those who live in a cold place.  I love the beauty of winter sceneries but, since I grew up in Canada where winter still reigns and seems to have no end, I totally get it when my friends and family tell me they are so tired of it!  My answer to the winter blues is this adorable salad.  Look at these baby peas! They couldn't be cuter! This recipe is basically sunshine in a bowl.  And you know what? I promise you can make this flavorful and fresh salad at home with simple and available ingredients, even when spring has not yet arrived!

Tropical verrine

February 21, 2015 by Anne Fillion in egg-free, raw, vegana, nut-free, dairy-free, glutenfree

Eating a plant-based diet doesn't mean you have to forget that your body needs good fats to function at its best!  Kids need a certain amount of fat in their diets in order for their brain and nervous system to develop correctly. That's why vegetarian and vegan toddlers (as well as adults!) need to eat a diet that includes a variety of nuts, seeds, good quality oils and butters (like coconut butter) and avocados.

Fennel, blood orange, beet, mint and pistachio salad

February 18, 2015 by Anne Fillion in glutenfree, vegana, nut-free, egg-free, soy-free, dairy-free

This is the prettiest, classiest and sexiest salad I've ever made! It was on our Valentine's Day table (as well as my hazelnut, chocolate and fleur de sel "pot de crème" and a few homemade raw chocolates...).   It's also one of my winter salad classics with only a few wonderful ingredients; blood oranges, sweet beets (this time a mix of golden and red), minced fennel, crunchy roasted pistachios and goat or sheep cheese.  The only thing this salad needs to be absolutely perfect is a balsamic vinaigrette!

Assorted RAW superfood chocolates

February 13, 2015 by Anne Fillion in egg-free, raw, soy-free, vegana, nut-free, dairy-free, glutenfree

This year, Noah and I decided to do a little surprise for daddy on Valentine's day.  My son really enjoys being in the kitchen with me, so I thought it would be a nice idea to make our own raw chocolate. And you know what ? You don’t need to be an expert to make this easy recipe!  In fact, I've done it a few times and I've always been thrilled about how great they turn out.  On top of that, it's a 5 minute recipe!  My son always has a blast when it's time to choose the flavours and toppings... and he's surprisingly creative!
