homemade almond milk

February 06, 2015 by Anne Fillion in dairy-free, egg-free, glutenfree, soy-free, vegana

This is a pretty basic recipe that I make every 2-3 days or so.  This homemade almond milk is way better than the nut milks you can buy in stores!

Homemade almond milk

Recipe from Prana Bio

Yield : about 4.5 cups almond milk

Ingredients :

1 cup raw almonds, soaked at least 4 hours (or overnight)

4 cups cold purified water

1/4 cup maple syrup or 4 pitted dates (optional if you want an unsweetened version)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Nut milk bag - See note

  1. Rinse and drain your soaked almonds.
  2. Blend all the ingredients in a high speed blender.
  3. Filter in a nut milk bag (available online or in natural food stores).

Note : When my nut bag is in the washing machine or if I can't find it, I filter my almond milk in a small strainer, by pressing and helping the milk going down with a spoon.  The result is not as smooth, but perfect for last-minute granola bowl!
